Biography: Michael Jon Preston was born in Folkestone in 1970. From a very young age he has shown his artistic ability not only in painting but also in woodwork.
For many years his painting was just an enjoyable hobby and he ran his own business as a picture framer. Though now living in Folkestone Michael was brought up in the historic town of Rye which has been an inspiration for many of his paintings in both water colour and acrylic. He has developed several styles all proving very popular. His most recent work using acrylics and water colours is a quirky and fun approach to the painting of local scenes and buildings.Some of these are now in limited edition prints as they have become so popular. His pictures are detailed and show a love for the quality of colour.
Showing his versatility he has sold many imaginative seascapes highlighting the dramatic skies of a summer evening.
Michael loves walking and is an avid photographer, never going anywhere without his camera to capture a particular vista that fires his imagination. His work includes his own distinctive potrayal of local scenes, buildings even a comical view of wildlife.
Though still running his picture framing business Michael hopes to spend more time painting and experimenting with the more difficult media of oils. He is an energetic and spontaneous painter which is why acrylics have appealed. Oil painting has moved on from the laborious process of old where layers of glazes were laid down in a painstaking and orderly manner. So this is now an attractive alternative for his style.
